First Impressions

The public place that I chose to visit was The Getty Villa, an art museum most well known for its collection of Greek,Roman, and Etruscan antiquities. J.Paul Getty purchased the sixty-four-acre site in Malibu in 1945. He decided to re-create a first century Roman country house in order to give those who visited the full effect of that time period. The Getty Villa opened to the public in 1974 and closed for renovation in 1997, six months before the opening of the Getty Center in Los Angeles. I spent several hours at the museum and found myself gaining a new appreciation for art. Not only is the exterior of the museum so beautiful, inside there is so much to see and experience. I was surprised to see so many families touring this site. The great thing about this place was that it had a sophisticated vibe yet it was appropriate for all ages. They even had a cafe that you could sit down at and have lunch. This is a great example of a public place because it is full of activities with a safe-environment and where all are welcome.

  2. I have also been to this museum. It's probably one of the most beautiful museums I've ever been to in my life. I think that this is a good public place to observe because there are so many different kinds of people that visit and it gives you a sense of how public the place really is. It's very inviting and some people go there just to chill out and relax instead of actually visit the museum itself. Good choice Loren :)

  3. The Getty is a great public place because it offers variety from the art displayed to the people who visit. I think for your essay you can talk about how it has free admission, so this invites people who may not have money for other activities. The Getty also invites students who are studying art. I think you can talk about what the art means to the visitors and why they would visit that museum. Is it cause there's religious art? Is it cause there's art that represents different cultures? Or is it for the good food?
